Credential Verification

How TradeHire verifies trade licenses

Every technician profile on TradeHire is validated against official Maine state licensing records — automatically, at the source, not by trusting self-reported data.

Why It Matters

A license claim is not the same as a verified license

On generic job boards, a candidate writes "Licensed Master Electrician" in their profile. That is a claim. There is no validation. The employer either takes it on faith or manually calls the state board.

TradeHire eliminates that gap. Every technician profile you see on our platform has been validated against the same official state database that building inspectors and licensing authorities use.

This is not just a better experience. For employers hiring for work that requires licensed personnel, it is a meaningful risk reduction.

Generic Job Board

  • Self-reported license information, unverified
  • No connection to state licensing databases
  • No license authority level shown
  • No expiration or status monitoring
  • Employer must verify manually

TradeHire

  • Queried directly against Maine OPLR database
  • License type and authority level confirmed
  • Expiration date and current status verified
  • Periodic re-verification maintains accuracy
  • Employers see verified credentials instantly

The verification process, step by step

01

Technician Submits License Number

When a technician creates their TradeHire profile, they enter their state-issued license number and select their trade category. No document upload is required.

02

TradeHire Queries State Records

Our verification engine sends a query to the Maine Office of Professional and Occupational Regulation (OPLR) database using the license number provided. This is the same database that contractors, inspectors, and hiring companies use to manually verify credentials.

03

License Data is Validated

The state database returns the license holder's name, license type, authority level, issue date, expiration date, and current status. We cross-reference this against the information the technician provided to confirm a match.

04

Profile is Marked Verified

If validation succeeds, the technician's profile receives a Verified badge. Their license type, authority level, and status are now visible to employers on the platform. Their personal identity — name, contact info — remains hidden.

05

Verification is Maintained

We periodically re-query state records to detect license expirations, suspensions, or status changes. If a license lapses or is suspended, the Verified status is updated accordingly and the employer-visible profile reflects the current state.

Verification questions

What if my license was recently issued or renewed?

State databases can take days to weeks to reflect new or renewed licenses. If your verification fails but your license is current, contact our support team. We can manually review your license documentation while the database updates.

Does TradeHire verification replace an employer's due diligence?

Our verification is a strong, automated signal drawn directly from state records — the same source an employer would check manually. For final hiring decisions, especially for roles with significant legal exposure, we recommend employers also verify directly with the Maine OPLR.

What happens if my license expires after I create a profile?

Our system monitors license status and updates your verified badge automatically when license status changes. You will receive a notification if your verification status changes, and employers will see the updated status.

Can I verify licenses from states other than Maine?

TradeHire currently verifies licenses issued by the state of Maine. We are building out verification infrastructure for additional states and will announce expanded coverage as it becomes available.
